They say that education can bring you to places and will help you achieve your dreams. This is the reason why those who are educated are more likely to succeed than those that are not educated. Although the success of a person is not entirely reliant to education, still, there is a big difference in terms of opportunities and qualifications. Sad but true, most of the companies are looking for those who are educated because they have the skills and the knowledge that are needed for the jobs available.

Unfortunately though, there are a lot of people who do not have access to education; hence, most people who are not education are in poverty. It is either they cannot afford to go to school or simply there is no access to schools in their areas.

Think about this, if you have money, you can go to prestigious schools and even travel far just to get the best education. For those who cannot afford, they would rather settle in the nearby schools. Of course, this does not mean that the schools in the nearby areas are not good enough but perhaps, they lack the educational materials to equip their students.

Let us put it this way, there are a lot of schools in the mountain areas in the Philippines. The students of different ages are put in the same class because there is only one teacher. The teacher would actually walk for many kilometers everyday just as so they can teach the students. Another harsh reality is that they do not even have the basic books and teaching materials.

While there are those who have access to education, the question is, are they getting a quality education? Maybe not! A lot of schools are over-crowded; they have more than 50 students in one class, which is not very conducive to learning at all. Hence, there is a need for more classrooms and teachers to be able to provide the best education for students.

Now, what can you do in order to help these people get the education that they need in order to alleviate their poverty. There are many ways that you can help. You can volunteer to teach or even donate to various organizations that go to remote places, build schools, send students to schools or supply basic educational materials.

With your little help, you can make someone’s dreams come true.

The health industry has a great advancement in the recent years. A lot of diseases have been recognized and treatments have been produced. However, in spite of the advancement in the medical and health field, it is very unfortunate to know that a lot of countries in the world have no access even to the basic health care.

For instance, how do you expect for people in some parts of Africa to be healthy and well when clean water is not even available for them? They will have to walk for several kilometers to get water, unclean at that, for them to be able to drink. Sad but true, but the basic health care is only available to those who can afford. This means that the vast majority in the people of the world would have to opt for other means.

More than the medical health care, the basic necessities such as food is not even available. Many families would have to resort to eating only once a day or even none while a lot of those who are fortunate enough to have food on their table are wasting food. According to statistics, hundreds of thousands of food are being thrown each day. If these foods are only given to those who are hungry, perhaps, no one in the world would go hungry.

There are also places in the world where doctors and other medical practitioners do not exist. You can say that in these places, there is no basic medical care. Kids are malnourished and would even die to diseases that are highly treatable. If there are doctors and other medical practitioners, what are lacking are the medical supplies. Now, how can they treat patients when even the basic medical supplies are not even available? Again, this sad reality is truly taking innocent lives that would have been spared if only medicines were only available.

The question now is what would you do to be able to contribute in helping people around the world for a basic health care, food and water? Even if you are in the other side of the world, you can surely help. All you need to do is to look for organizations that reach to the farthest places that need help. Your little help will surely make a difference to the lives of other people who are victims of poverty and circumstance.

Are we free?

Can any of us be free if any of us are not?

This is a question we’ve been inquiring into over the last few days.

We live in incredible times.

However, can any of us be truly free though when there are still those who are not.

In recent days there have been incredible truths revealed at the local, national and international level.

So, are we free now?

Would we like to be ?

Would you like us to be?

12 Years a Slave

12 Years A Slave

Today on the 16th Feb 2014, as “12 Years a Slave” ( ) won many awards at the British Academy Film Awards, it is estimated that 21 million people are still in slavery.

We think the true number is far higher if all forms of slavery are included.

Let not our ambivalence mean that this number continues for any longer.

Our intent is that within a generation slavery is truly gone, and all are free to claim their birthright.

We give thanks to those who came before and who dreamt, worked, struggled and stood for the freedoms we have now, that we can have these conversations and inquire into what it really means to be free and to serve all in the days and years ahead.

And as the latest fellow of BAFTA said so clearly – we must give thanks to the teachers who have inspired us and helped us become who we are.
